It carbonates well, but don't hold the button too long! We have been experimenting with less sparkle for various add-ins, and are now making fizzy water as well as soda drinks. The machine is versatile like that. You can do your drinks the way you like them, so I feel like we're saving a ton of money when you consider the sparkling water in the store is over $1 per. I can add any flavors I like. We've done Cherry Pepsi, and citrus orange, but yesterday I made lime and it was awesome too. Doesn't take long to make stuff, there's just a bit of noise and it's not intolerable. I like that the machine is letting you know it's working. It's smaller than our espresso maker, so pretty slender, and since it doesn't need a cord/electricity, you can put it anywhere, not just on the coffee station. There are only 2 of us here, and we make one or two bottles a day, and it's not run out yet.
