I do not like relying on one thing alone so I have my Coleman gas burner as well. My advice is to use heavy duty pans and kettles if you can carry them as very hot for lightweight gear. Update, I made a couple of ad on mods ie the large grill that catches the ash at the bottom is a bit wide and lets embers fall through, easy fix take the mesh grate of a disposable bbq cut to size drop in (it can stay there when you fold up) As stated this fire burns very hot with flames licking up, too hot for gentle cooking, I cut 2 steel bars with slots that go across the top, then cut a bit of 3mm steel plate a bit bigger than top, for me this transforms the fire, the steel plate gets really hot, the fire does not burn so quick, great for frying, small kettle just as quick. I like hot sometimes for wok, but also like more gentle for fry etc, hence my plate solves that. I do understand that for a back packer all my clutter is too much. Horses for courses ! Dead easy to light, it has lots of updraught and throws off a lot of heat. Front door was hard to open when it got hot it seemed to stick. Metal and fittings do get too hot to handle with bare hands so wear sturdy fire proof gloves. Product description says can be used backpacking. It is a bit too heavy if you were out on a multi day backpacking trip but if out for one day with no other or not much gear to carry it would be ok. We go canoe camping so will be ideal for that.
