Furthermore you will need to special primer like Zinsser BIN to adhere to smooth surfaces. Car primer and a white top coat is a low cost method. This will withstand heat, but you cannot get a satin finish. Alternatively try Rust-Oleum 3302 primer and one of their aerosol top coat or universal paints. **Q: Is it waterproof** A: It is solvent based paint so yes it will be. Won't stop water leaking from a cracked pipe or radiator though but that is not its purpose **Q: How long does the smell disappear? I painted copper pipes and 5 days later the smell is awful** A: As the product is solvent based the odour can take up to a week to dissipate. If the odour persists after this time frame please get in touch with us via 0333 222 7171 or via email on duluxcustomerservices@akzonobel.com ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great on radiators *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 24 February 2026* Great paint and easy to use. Drips a little so need covers round. Great for radiators to make them look bright and new. Smells a little but not too bad and soon goes away. Nice bright colour and nice and thick so stays on well. Would recommend ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good coverage. *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 6 July 2024* Pricey. With the right roller brush (sponge), was easy to apply. Have to be quick, dries fairly quickly. Good coverage, applied 2 coats, 12 hours apart. Tin says allow 16 hours between coats however i found that it dried half that time ( temps were 17-19 degrees celcius). Used about half a tin for 2 medium sized radiators (1 coat on one side and 2 coats on the other side). Radiators looked like new!β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”My Rating Systemβ€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”*opinions are my own and based on my own experiences and preferences*1 Star : Extremely poor quality product. Done a small radiator and a couple of lengths of pipework with 2 coats, with about a third left.Tried hard to get a super smooth finish but there were some areas that cane out hammered. Not a problem and doesn't look bad, I was just aiming for a super smooth finish.Easy to wash off brushes with white spirit. Comes out quite runny but seems to thicken quite quickly, but jot to the point of being unusable.Consistently good outcome, so happy to keep buying and using --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.us/products/50844384-hammerite-5084917-500ml-radiator-paint-satin-white](https://www.desertcart.us/products/50844384-hammerite-5084917-500ml-radiator-paint-satin-white) --- *Product available on Desertcart United States of America* *Store origin: US* *Last updated: 2026-10-09*
