Concrete/deck mud with PVC liner. Exact steps and layers as the diagram inside the package shows.My experience:First, it has everything. Nice weep passages to allow drainage at the last defense - liner. Precise fit over PVC pipe. Solid hardwares. Great fitment and feel of drain top plate under bare feet. Choices of rubber or threaded PVC for final drain height adjustment before install. Top plate is reversible for tiling in. Cylinder screen to catch debris and prevent clogging, and a key to remove top plate.These options don’t always come with other, more expensive drains. When optioned out, other brands cost significantly more. I’ve compared. The price is another reason for the 5 stars.I installed honed pebble mosaic around this drain. Protected it with masking tape until sanded grout was applied. The result is a fixture free from marring.I absolutely recommend this.
