Review: Cute little antenna... - I purchased this dual band antenna setup for my GMRS radio, but will probably use it for my Ham radio as well when needed. I wanted something that'd be discrete without announcing to others that there's a radio installed within the truck, and this antenna suited my intentions very well. I know that distance may be compromised a bit, but having two-way comms is just for rag chewing with others and monitoring for emergencies. In a pinch, I'll have my mobile device with me anyway if I really need to seek EMS. The only 'flaw' with this antenna mount is having to seal up the cable connection at the base of the mount. I wanted to ensure that water won't be trickling down into the cable that will cause problems later in the future. Good thing for silicone sealant... does wonders in sealing up small areas.
Review: Performed the task and beyond. - Antenna worked for its intended use. I needed an external 2M antenna for within the metro area, VO1 land. I was actually surprised with it's performance when on high elevation. I used the NMO mount for a 5/8 wave when I needed the extra gain and at regular highway speeds of 100 to 110km/h it seemed to be nice and sturdy. The set screws are starting to show corrosion / rust but living on the shore line of the North Atlantic I wouldn't expect it not to. Overall its a good performer. I added some anti-ox to the set screws and electrical connections to help against the corrosion / rust.
