You can’t. This is not suitable for Bird cages if using water, because the only way it will not spill is if the container is not moving. The rim of the blue plastic reservoir is too short that the water line stops just at brim of the dispenser. So when your bird perches on it, it will spill. To the seller teaQ: the product description is misleading. You cannot use water for this for bird cages. **Q: Is one of these sutiable to feed 2 degus for a few days or would i need two of them?** A: Hello, it depends on the daily food amount of your 2 degus. The feeder can hold 440ml water or food, you can refer to the capacity. If one feeder is not enough to feed your 2 degus for a few days, you could consider buying two feeders. The rim of the blue plastic reservoir is not low enough. When your bird perches on it, it will spill. The rim of the reservoir should go lower than the brim of the tray so that the water won’t spill. This still works for dry food though.
