Review: An amazing saw at a great price. - I bought this saw several months ago thinking it was an affordable way to try out the Japanese approach to fine cut saws. I've been thoroughly impressed with the design and performance of the saw, I just wish I'd known about them decades ago. The basic concept of the pull cut saw means that since the blade is under tension when pulled through the wood, the blade can be made thinner, allowing for the thinner kerf. For me personally, the pull cut allows me to be more accurate in my cuts and the folding design means I can safely store the saw just about anywhere. Add to that, this has rip cut and cross cut edges on the same saw so it takes the place of two tools and saves storage space. If all of that isn't enough, replacement blades are available at an affordable price should the need arise (I've considered ordering one to have on hand just in case but haven't gotten around to it yet). I'd really like to get the folding Dozuki offered by Suizan but so far this Ryoba has proven more than capable of everything I've needed in a fine cut hand saw. If you're considering adding one of the Suizan saws to your collection I highly recommend this company's products, their attention to detail and product quality is second to none and their prices are very reasonable for what they deliver.

**Q: Is the blade flexible enough to use this saw to cut door casings and jambs in place to allow sliding a floating floor underneath?**
A: Yes, as a matter of fact I am in the middle of a hardwood floor install right now. I am using this saw and another on the job, it is performing very well in this application.

**Q: Why is the blade tapered in width?**
A: Because these saws cut on the pull, the taper helps the teeth naturally dig in more aggressively with less down pressure.

**Q: Are the sides marked so as to know which blade to do cross cuts and which side to use for rips?**
A: Don't need marking. Course teeth for rip and fine teeth for crosscut.

**Q: Is the blade sharpenable?**
A: Not sharpenable, the steel on these saws is quite thin (due to the fact it is a “pull” saw). It cuts on the pull stroke not the push stroke (like most tradition western style saws) This allows a very thin kerf and quite fine saw set. The steel quality is excellent, so they hold an edge for a very long time. If it had very heavy use daily use and you found it blunt, usually you replace the blade rather than sharpen this style of saw. Hope this helps

I love this saw! If you don't try to force the cut, the saw allows you to saw nicely straight lines. It is much easier to use than a standard old-school hand saw. And the folding quality is great for someone with minimal space.
