I would say it’s more soft due to the material used. However unlike most soft ones the pillow doesn’t lose its shape or give. We have had one for a couple of years and it still has the original shape. **Q: Is it machine washable?** A: There's two parts to the pillow, the inner core and the outer shell. You SHOULD be putting a pillow case over the outer shell like a normal human. But the outer shell is washable so long as you remove the inner core. Inner core is latex foam, outer shell is a zippered case with the hex grid foam incased inside. Lastly to appreciate the purple pillow you truly need stretchy pillow cases, purple makes their own and I have to say they are as good as the pillow and without them, the pillow doesn't really shine, like your getting 50-75% of what the pillow actually offers. **Q: Is there any off-gassing? Does it smell weird?** A: No, it's not a memory foam pillow, Purple Pilows aren't made from any off gassing materials. Purple uses a Latex foam core with latex hex grid over cotton outer layers. Latex doesn't off gas, hence why it's one of the few synthetic rubberized compounds used in the medical field. **Q: Should stomach sleepers get the low profile regardless of body size since the distance from shoulder to neck wont matter too much, or does it matter?** A: I will say, yes. Just received my expensive pillow, low profile is still too high for me and it caused neck pain. Give up it. I replace it with newentor pillow which can adjustable height and gives me efficient neck & shoulder support. I went through a phase (a few years) when I only wanted super firm pillows, but after dealing with neck pain in the morning I decided to hunt for The Pillow. I bought so many, including ones that advertise as cervical pillows, memory foam, “hotel pillows” etc. This pillow was super expensive but when it went on sale I knew I had to try it. I don’t know how to explain it other than it is SO comfortable. I am 5’5” and not a big person, so I got the medium loft and it’s perfect for sleeping on my side, back, or stomach. It’s not necessarily firm OR fluffy, but it feels like it cradles my head perfectly. This pillow paired with a mattress topper and a Mellow comforter has been the absolute best combination. I wake up with zero neck or back pain.I’ve never tried a pillow with the material that this is made of, and it definitely is a little weird looking (almost bumpy) when I use thin cooling pillowcases, but it’s truly worth the money. I recommend trying it out because it’s truly a different pillow experience. And when I do find them, they never seem to last. I don't like memory foam (too firm). Decided to try some latex pillows and ordered this one along with one other. So figured I'd give this a try and if I didn't like it, just return it. Well it arrived the other day and I LOVE it.It's very malleable. I always spend some of my downtime in bed reading my kindle. So I like to lay on my side when I do this. It works great for that. Head is at the correct height and if I bunch up the pillow just a little, I can be right on the end of the pillow so I can read my kindle that's propped up on the bed.I also sleep on my back a lot. Again, this is working great for that. Constant support throughout the night.It's hard to describe. It is very comfortable and has lots of cushioning. But it also has a firmness to it that supports my head. It doesn't have that pure softness that other pillows have. But that little firmness is what I assume allows it to keep doing it's thing all night long. And that firmness, isn't so firm as to cause issues, just enough to keep things supported.I was hesitant about it... but am so glad I decided to give it a go - worth every penny. Now it'll just be a matter of how long it holds up.
