I didn't have to drop my stock spare tire to install the hitch, but I did shift the spare about 1/2" forward afterwards to make sure it wouldn't rub against the back of the hitch. In my case I just had to loosen. The spare tire to get the hitch in place. Then retightened everything and I was done. Probably 20 mins work.
