## Description

From the manufacturer LIBÉRON PREP & REPAIR RANGE Professional prep and repair products for achieving flawless and beautiful wood finish Libéron Fine Wood Stripper removes old paint and varnish finishes from wood and metal. It is kind to wood and fragile surfaces as no heavy scraping is required, but tough on paint and varnish. The easy to use, non-drip gel methylene chloride-free formulation clings to the surface making it ideal for vertical surfaces. It has a fast-working time of around 5 to 30 minutes. ADVICE Always test on a hidden area before full application. Wear suitable protective gloves and ensure good ventilation. Do not use in direct sunlight. Dispose of residues and washing water/solvents responsibly to avoid discharge into the environment. PREPARATION Ensure the surface is dry and free from dust before application. Shake the container thoroughly before use. Protect surrounding surfaces, especially vinyl and synthetic materials. APPLICATION Apply a generous coat using a brush, ensuring the surface is fully covered. Leave to work for 5-30 minutes, depending on the type and thickness of the finish. Remove softened paint or varnish using a plastic scraper or Libéron Steel Wool Grade 2 (Medium). Repeat the process if multiple layers require removal. Neutralise the timber using Libéron Wax & Polish Remover or white spirit. Leave to dry for 24 hours before lightly sanding and applying a new finish.

Review: Good for antique woods and use indoors. - I use this for stripping old gun stocks and so I cant really say how good it is at other things such as paint but its great for what I want. Generally my stocks are about 150 years old and they have a mix of oils, stains, and dirt etc and this really gives a even finish. I dont really go too deep as im not after quality etc but you can really see the difference. Plu I use it in the house and it doesnt make me ill. It has a distinctive smell but I feel that its quite harmless. It doesnt run and works in 30 minutes. After the wood is a little damp and so it needs to dry out but by the next day you can sand it down. I tend to use 2 coats. Im not sure what other strippers do and maybe they do the same thing but I have not been displeased with this. Because im not taking a think coat of paint or varnish off there is little to get rid of but I use dishwashing scourers to clean the gook off after. I do the work in the kitchen with a rag on the floor but really, its not splashy or runny and after I just wash the brush under the tap and its good for next time. I give this 5 stars as I actually enjoy this part of the job, I really feel like I have the right tool. I do recall that it came in super over the top packaging, I think it had several wraps of bubble wrap which is good considering its a chemical. It took me a while to figure out how to open it. I thought you pulled up the flap handles and pulled a spout up and out like on oil cans but all you do is unscrew it. It makes a ratchet sound which is what made me think I was doing it wrong. I dont think the price is too much but considering the age of my items I didnt really want to experiment with cheaper alternatives. Its prety thick and I can see this running out quick if your stripping big things but its lasting plenty for me.
Review: A good paint stripper! - This paint stripper did a good job on a wooden filing cabinet I was renovating. It doesn't smell too bad and was pleased to see it's free from the harmful chemical methylene chloride. Protect your eyes, nose, mouth and skin nonetheless! Only bloody annoying thing is the tiny opening that you can barely pour the stuff out of or get a decent brush into. I opened mine with a tin opener just so I could get to the product. Big design flaw!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work on door frames? Is it better than nutrimors? Thanks**
A: Yes, the new Nitromors is not nearly as strong as the old formula, and this is better. Not totally brilliant though, don't think you can get the old lethal stuff anymore! But should work on frames better than any of the other brands on offer. The top comes off in a rush, really bad design, be very careful not to let it splash in your face or eye.

**Q: Hi - does it help to use your wax/polish remover before the stripper product?. What other items do you need for the job?**
A: Just whacked it on the pine kitchen table , left it a while and then used a scraper to remove the gloop! Parts needed a 2nd. application but the whole job went fine.

**Q: Can you wax wood after removing the varnish using this product**
A: Yes...
Provides a perfect base to re wax wood

**Q: Will it take varnish of wood**
A: Yes it will. May need several coats depending how stubborn the varnish is.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Read the Instructions and it works very well indeed, remember gentleness takes time to work!
*by G***P on 30 November 2025*

I read the instructions and had the time to do the job. I have a small dark varnished orphan from a nest of Ercol tables and I wanted to take this beautiful elm table back to its natural wood colour. I applied a thick gel coat to the underside first (after shaking it thoroughly) and left it for a half hour in a warm room. Time and a bit later I carefully scraped the dark varnish away with an old bank card and was amazed at the beautiful wood grain it revealed the top was treated in the same manner, with the same result. The table was wiped with white spirit to neutralise the gel residue and is now drying for 24 hours ready to be finished, probably with Danish Oil.
