## Overview

Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer is a natural, nematode-based biological control product designed to target and eradicate leatherjacket larvae in lawns. ## Description

Product description Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer should be applied when the soil temperature is above 12oC (54oF) and the leatherjackets are at the correct stage in their life cycle. This will be late August till the end of October. An easy way to judge the correct time is to apply two weeks after a large number of crane fly are seen. After this application time the leatherjackets will begin to mature, moving towards pupation in the spring and the nematodes will find it difficult to penetrate and kill the pest. Leatherjackets are the larval stage of the crane fly or daddy long legs. Control leatherjackets naturally by treating with Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer in April and or September - the ideal time to treat. Crane flies or daddy long legs lay their eggs in the same area of lawn from which they emerge, so numbers increase rapidly. These eggs hatch in August / Sept and the larvae immediately start to feed on the grass roots. The leatherjackets will feed though the autumn, before overwintering. They start feeding again the following spring and gorge on grass roots before pupating to emerge as adults in August. The symptoms of an attack are :- Grass growth slows and yellow patches appear. Grass easily pulled up with little or no root growth. Birds, particularly starlings, will pull at the lawn in search of the leatherjackets. In August, customers report clouds of daddy long legs emerging from lawns in early morning leaving behind the casings sticking up in the lawn . As the daddy long legs emerge, they start to lay their eggs back in infected lawns starting the whole cycle again - the next generation of leatherjackets hatch within 2 weeks. Leatherjackets are 2.5cm / 1" long, greyish black in colour, legless and with no distinct head. Nemasys® Leatherjacket Killer should be applied to the lawn in April and/or September. The lawn must be moist (we recommend pre - watering) and apply on a dull day or in the evening. After application you MUST wash in the nematodes by watering heavily by hose or by sprinkler. To apply, simply mix the nematodes with water. Apply with watering can or hose end feeder. Once applied the nematodes will seek out the leatherjacket larvae. On contact they enter the larvae and destroy it. Nemasys® Leatherjacket Killer is a living, perishable product. Once you receive it, it will keep for up to 2 weeks in the FRIDGE and you must use before the expiry date. Directions Divide the pack into 10 equal portions.Add 1 portion i.e. a tenth of the pack to feeder bowl.Then fill the bowl with water before attaching the hose.Taking care to keep the feeder in an upright position apply evenly to 50 sqm for 8 minutes using a side-to-side motion to keep the nematodes well mixed.

Review: Great product with positive results. - This was perfect to eradicate our leather jackets. Our grass had turned to mud and we could even hear the noises of them feeding! After reading the reviews of the Nematodes we decided to give it a go. We stored them in the fridge as it stated in the instructions until we were ready to use them. The instructions are clear and concise on when and how to use the Nematodes but please make sure you read them to apply the correct dosage. Within a couple of weeks we noticed a difference in the grass. Usually, during a wet period we could see the leather jackets all over our patio. After the 2 weeks there was no sign of them any more and a marked improvement in the lawn. Our lawn is now back to its old condition again and we will certainly use this product again if we discover the same problem.
Review: Easy to apply - Well I've used these and there are still signs of the little critters ..so not sure if you have to reapply every year. Initially it cured the problem. Easy to apply. Recommended.

**Q: I have just discovered that leatherjackets are responsible for my poor lawn. Will this work in April?**
A: Nematodes will control leatherjackets provided the conditions are right. The soil needs to be warm and wet and the leatherjackets need to be at the right stage of their life cycle. The best time of the year to treat is when the young are first emerging in the autumn. However the nematodes can also be used in the spring once the soil has warmed up. A good rule of thumb is to treat as soon as you have grass growing, but don't leave it so late that the leatherjackets have started to pupate ready to fly off and breed. April can be just about right.

**Q: My lawn has a mix of eggs, flies and leatherjackets. Will product work if applied now(start of August)?**
A: September/October is better, and this does the job well. Don't order to early as it only has a fridge life of about 3 weeks. there is another similar product for other infestations, I used both.

**Q: Can I treat in march**
A: April and sept best. Apply after lots of daddy long legs flying about. Best above 12*c

**Q: How long does it take for the treatment to work?**
A: No difinitive answer, as they have to hatch and deal with the leather jackets. Best to apply in September after the crane fly have emerged to lay their eggs. Repeat in the spring when warm enough.  Our lawn is beautiful now after above treatment.

The item worked as described. It was easy to use, and haven’t seen anymore leather jackets since putting the treatment down. It is better used very early in the year when there is often lots of rain as the ground needs to remain damp for the treatment to work. I will be re ordering in autumn time to do a second treatment as it is often in the autumn time when the crane flys lay the eggs. Fantastic product
