They have an elasticated waist. **Q: What is the inside leg on medium pants ?** A: I initially ordered the large and they were gigantic. Then got the medium as I thought they'd be a perfect fit but they are still far too big for me (circa 5'11"). They wash well and have minimal shrinkage, if like me you use a tumble dryer through the winter months.I'm 6ft tall and around a 34inch waist, and I bought a medium. The length of the joggers is absolutely perfect for me (might be too long if you are shorter than 6ft) and there is plenty of room around the waist.
