A cat or dog would still get bruised by the door but it would certainly stop it getting squashed. These are great door stoppers, I have a 3 year old & 1 year old who love to slam doors on each other, they are quite flummoxed as to why the doors don't slam now. It has saved a lot of tears, as the door stops are thick so shouldn't pinch any small fingers. We have bi-fold doors in our kitchen and when a gust of wind comes through the house it can cause a lot of door slamming, with these in place it has saved the door frames. Occasionally there is a gentle thud if the door has been caught, and you do need to watch that the door doesn't bounce back if you are standing too close.We now have these on all our internal doors. I haven't noticed any glue like other reviewers, they seem to be quite sturdy. I'm hoping they last for a long time.
