It is a skin tight costume and i would say if the 9yr old is taller than average, go for the medium kids size. Hope this helps! **Q: What size would you recommed for a 6 year old please** A: My son is age 9 and I got a large and it was snug! **Q: Can you unzip just the head if the childs had enough for a breather** A: Son said you can pull the head over your head to breath. No zips, it has Velcro at the back. We had to cut slits in the eyes so he could see! Ended up taking the head off during trick or treat as it’s apparently quite claustrophobic.
