If you reckon on using this cutter t o such an extent as to consider measurements wearing off I would advise buying more of an industrial, and expensive, type of cutter. Your more likely to have problems trying to cut in a consistently straight line. I cut invitation cards every year for a local Christmas Party and trying to cut about 200 (8 invites from an A4 cardboard sheet) hopefully of the same size is practically impossible. There is no adjustable and fixable mechanism on the base to ensure a similar cut every time. And as long as you do not have a habit of waving the red handle about (you soon will) when actually cutting you may get somewhere near it. That's providing you haven't lost the nterchangeable blade that you are looking for which is slottede into the underside of the base nad hiopefully is still there when you want it. In other words there is more to worry about than lines and numbers dissappearing! It is an excellent tool, easy to use and very accurate. Also, I think, very safe to use. Mine has been well used over the last 20 years and continues to give good service. My wife was always borrowing mine - so this Amazon purchase was a second one just for her. The design has not changed noticeably in 20 years and it still cuts consistently and accurately. The blade on mine was getting a bit blunt after 20 years of use so I recently bought a replacement blade - which can be done on-line - though not from Amazon. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice quality cutter *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 19 February 2013* I would have to largely re-iterate the sentiments of the reviewers before me when describing this Dahle A3 personal trimmer. The base is metal and the sliding rail also. There is a transparent clamp that you slide your paper under, line it up and simply swipe to achieve a nice clean cut.This is great if you are trimming home printed photographs or cards etc and could be used for a certain amount of volume work. That said you can only cut a few sheets of 80gsm paper at a time and if you load it up then holding it steady and making a nice cut gets a little more difficult. This is not meant for cutting those 500 leaflets you are thinking of knocking up at home.Good quality feel to it though and I am sure it will last for a long time. You can make slim cuts easily and they are nice and smooth edged. The hardest part is keeping your paper or card steady and lined up correctly. You should really use this machine with the length of it facing away from you so you push and pull the cutter away and towards, rather than side on.Recommended and worth paying the little extra cash for over some of the cheaper models, which all seem to fall apart quickly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great trimmer - here's a working tip to double its life..... *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 28 January 2016* Bought to replace the same model that lasted over 15 years. I'm hoping this gives as long a life as my first one. It seems exactly the same in build quality. I don't have any trouble doing fine trims from A4 or trimming down small photos. Other reviewers have noted it's not quite square at the top edge. This was unfortunately true of my first one but it's not a big issue and very easy to adjust your cut. Never try to cut too many sheets or anything too thick This is the easiest way to damage a trimmer. When the rotary blade gets blunt don't buy a new one straight away.
