I had previously tried all kinds of artificial sweeteners but found they made me really unwell, with a huge appetite and feeling like I had flu all the time. I am a huge tea drinker and consume up to ten cups a day with one sugar. I tried it in 5 cups yesterday and a further 5 today with no ill effect. I did initially halve it in my first two cups just to be on the safe side but to be honest I didn't like the taste, now I'm back on one spoon and it tastes fine and is quite similar to sugar in taste although slightly different, however it is far better than any artificial sweetener I've previously tried. In addition and having done some research, this is also good for your teeth and not just because you're avoiding cane sugar either its the actual product . I'm no cook, but my other half is, and a good one at that. So far she's made sweet oat biscuits, apple flapjacks and rhubarb crumble. In each case , she simply substituted Xylitol for the equivalent amount of sugar, and I, as her tester can say that I've found no difference in sweetness compared to the full sugar versions she used to make before I was diagnosed (in July). I have to add that eating Xylitol on it's own produced a curious cooling sensation - like sucking a mint without the mint taste, however I have not noticed the cooling taste in any of the cooked products so far. Thank you** A: Hi there, yes this is 100% Xylitol. I have the packet in front of me and it is apparently 100% Birch Tree extract from Finland. It can be used in drinks, on cereals in cakes and basically anywhere you would use ordinary sugar. My friend has been stopping and did not realise that what she was putting on her breakfast cereal was not actually sugar but Birch Tree extract - so she was well impressed. Hope this helps. **Q: Is this product GMO free?** A: On the front of the packet it says "non GMO and gluten free" so I would say it is safe. I believe it is made mostly from birch trees and I would reckon they are hard to modify anyway, but I'm no scientist. Great for cooking and use on cereals and in drinks, quantity exactly the same as you would use sugar. Doesn't have any aftertaste nor does it produce the blood sugar highs experienced with standard sweetners, So far have not had the same horrid digestive issues experienced after Stevia!
