The (z-790-a D4) is ddr4. **Q: What is the minimum power supply needed to get the motherboard running?** A: This is a high end motherboard that has lots of expansion possibilities. I'm building one soon and will use a Corsair RM1000x, 1,000 watt, power supply. The power supply affects everything in a build permanently, si it doesn't make sense to cut corners with a component as important as a power supply. If you don't use a high end GPU originally, you might upgrade later on. If your power supply is not up to the task you will buy one then. I will not build for a customer with less than an 800 watt, Gold rated, power supply. Remember everything that is attached to your motherboard will draw power from it.
