Review: excellent etchant for metal - bought this to etch a blade which had been polished to a mirror finish. I diluted this solution 4 to 1 with distilled/deionised water. (dont use it undiluted - you will damage your metal as its pretty strong stuff) 2 lots of 15 minute dips in the solution and a perfectly etched blade came out the other end! Thank you** A: Hello JanieI was using it to etch copper. You shouldn't dilute it if you are using it for that purpose. If you are using it as an etch at have a look at Edinburgh etch which uses mixed Ferric Chloride and Citric acid. This works far better and produces deep clean etches. **Q: Does it etch silver** A: I only use it to etch copper printed circuit boards. Sorry I can't answer your question about silver **Q: will this etch damascus steel** A: I've only used this to etch copper I'm afraid. Although I have made inked plates before, a similar principle. That was in college 20 years ago. So this was the first solo flight in a related field. I used a laser print ironed onto some brass plates.
