Is this light similarly too bright?** A: The 20w would be too bright and too hot for above a bed as a reading light I believe. However you could easily swop the bulb for 10w or even 5 which would probably solve the problem. personally we use an LED reading light which runs cool bur bright. Ours is from IKEA. **Q: Do you need a transformer** A: with the lights you will need a 240 volt to 12 volt transformer but that is not a problem.the lights do come witha a small plug-in arangment at the end but you could cut it off and wire direct to the 12 volt transformer if needed but see if you can buy the plug in type first **Q: Is the glass clear or obscure** A: Hi The glass is obscure, an opaque finish.
