If you want to quickly copy and transfer old paper photos to a hard drive and likewise for old negatives it works. Agree the image crops from the original and may not be as fine as a scanner. However, far quicker than scanning and a lot less hassle. Had I taken them to a shop the cost might have ranged between £500 - £2000 but with this scanner I can sit on a night, watch tv & process a few slides at a time to suit my time frame. The scanner is light weight, doesn't have to be on a flat surface to use it & im very impressed with the scanned image.
