Review: Years of use, great results - These are invaluable in our garden. In the pack you get a sturdy plastic frame into which you pop 8 rows of root trainers, each with 4 separate cells in. You assemble the set, fill each cellwith soil, pop your seed(s) in and let Nature take her course. The great part of the design is when you're ready to transplant. Each row is split down the middle and hinged at the bottom so when you lift it out of the main frame you open it up and can take a perfectly neat plug of soil and plant out without damaging the plant or container. We have used ours over and over again through about 10 growing seasons. After repeated use they're starting to get a bit flimsy so I've bought a few more as a back-up as we can't do without them. Highly recommended.

Straight off I want to say they Are made of quite flimsy plasticy stuff but you quickly adapt to be light on the touch and treat these as fine china rather than an old mug. The way I use them is to fill all eight books with dryish free running compost in one go, firmly tapping the base of each book to settle the compost in and wedge them as a block of 32 cells into the lightweight frame. Then use a dibber to open up a deep well for the incoming seedling transplant. I've also used them for direct sowing and find that the seedlings grow roots straight down the grooves and are easy to separate. The clear lid doubles as a water reservoir to stand the frame in and keeps the cells just raised clear so roots will be drawn out of the base. Just finished using them for the 3rd year running and although a couple of books have begun a small split down the hinge seam, they're still serviceable. I like them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what type of plastic are the cells made from? (eg polypropylene? PVC? something else?)**
A: These are made from  recycled plastic and can be used if treated well for approx 5 -6 years but what type of plastic it is I don't know. There is nothing on the packaging to indicate what the content is or if it can be re ycled I would hope they can be recycled at the end of their useful life.

**Q: I have limited space, could I grow herbs, possibly basil or sage using these?**
A: I have quite a few of this product, I grow beans peas and lots of other vegetables. You will have no problem with these at all, only thing I can suggest is with herbs is start in a pot and transfer then once they have started. You will find the deep one’s a lot better.

**Q: I have seen there are 10 books per tray, but can you confirm how many cells are in each book (4 or 5)?**
A: All the previous answers are wrong. It comes with eight books per tray, and each book contains four plugs. However, they are a very tight fit.

**Q: Would this sit in a standard-size seed tray?**
A: Yes, mine is sitting in a standard seed tray.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great plant root trainers

Bought these to try out for both runner beans and sweet peas. They both were great and the plants were well rooted when needing to plant out. They are fairly fragile when out of frame, but are fairly strong when squeezed in and supporting each other. How many uses I'll get...we'll see but so far am very pleased with them. The clear top is very useful when the seeds have just been sown as this gives a micro climate to help them until they have germinated. So, all good...after their first use.
