Actually, you might want to think twice about getting it into an open wound... it burns like ****. But it's a solvent, so it's really good for removing polish and wax and other dirt/dust that has built-up on wood furniture. This is what I bought it for - and it's done the job really well. It has cleaned off several years of polish build-up and other dirt crud around the edges of my dining room table, and it's left it gleaming. I also used it to remove dirt build up on the banister and handrail alongside the stairs. And that's loads cleaner now.
