It has a very limited range. My unit stops working 4 meters away on same floor. There must be a single power cable coming into your appartment. If it can be located then it might be possible to fit the probe around the live cable. You need a competent electrician for this job.... **Q: Does it come with any software to be able to transfer the readings onto a PC?** A: No. It is really indicative information only available via the display. Useful to tell if you have left something on once the novelty of watching what spikes has passed.I simply record consumption, in a spreadsheet, by reading the meters weekly. **Q: I am having solar panels fitted tomorrow would the meter tell me if we were getting free electricity** A: Hi, Sorry to be late but I've been away for a week. No the only thing to do is to either put the sensor to the main input cable and see what you are consuming at any time or put it on the panels cable and see what you are generating. If you have an idea of what your appliances use you will then be able to see I if you are generating enough to run them. For instance a new fast kettle needs 3 Kw and a floor cleaner about 1.5 Kw. Our dishwasher needs about 0.7 and the washer up to 1.5 Kw (we run them one after the other of course.). This is what I do. You can play about with both methods and find out for yourselves which method suits you.
