Review: Good value tool for guitar making - A good, well- functioning little router handy for detail jobs. I got this specifically to cut the binding channels on an acoustic guitar, for which it worked perfectly (combined with the tilting base accessory and a good quality rabbeting bit with interchangeable bearings that cost nearly as much as the router- don't skimp on that!)) I can't comment on the durability as yet as I've only used it for that, but I was impressed with the adjustability and the quality feel of the machine.
Review: Great palm-router - Bought this to fit a new b-fold door to our en-suite. I have a plunge-router but got this for ease of use, and it's been brilliant. I opted for the round base so I could rotate the router as I worked, to get better visability of the cut; this wouldn't be possible with a square base. This is only my preference, though. It's not too loud when in operation. I actually forgot to put on my ear-defenders for a couple of cuts, and didn't really notice, to be honest; it's noisy, obviously as it's a power took, but not uncomfortably so. I set the router speed to '3'. which seemed fine, as I was cutting a relatively softwood door. The depth adjustment wheel on the supplied collar worked well, although the scaled rule printed on the side was not entirely useful (I used vernier depth gauge to check the bit depth, but a steel rule would work just as well). The quick-release depth locking-mechanism did the job, and it was a doddle to remove the collar. I used the offset edge tool, when recessing the hinges, and it worked well. Changing the bit was easy, too. Far less hassle than than changing the bit on my plunge-router. I had to make a freehand cut to fit a flush-handle, and it was surprisingly easy. The router is not too heavy to move (although I would recommend using two hands for added control) , and it didn't try to jump ahead as it was moved about. NOTE If making a deep cut : TAKE YOUR TIME! I had to cut out a 12mm recess, and (through lack of experience) went straight to that depth. The router obviously struggled, as too much wood was being taken off in one go. Once I dialed it back and did several runs, each time increasing the depth by 2-3mm, it was far easier. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this great, little router, and for forty quid, it's a real bargain.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What plunge base would you recommend for this?**
A: This Merry/Katsu trimmer uses allmost all Makita parts so all Makita accessories and parts will fit and are compatible such as the Makita 195563-0 Plunge Router Base for Router Trimmer RT070

**Q: Q1. what guarantee/warranty q2 what is the main difference other than price and collets from merry one sold by aim tools?thanks**
A: The manual offers a one-year warranty. "Should any trouble develop during this one year period, return the COMPLETE tool, freight prepaid, to one of Makita's Factory or Authorized Service Centers..." The question is would Makita honour this warranty, I'm not convinced that the router manufacturer didn't just copy Makita's manual. Maybe check with AimsTools.I very highly recommend this router. I have three of them, use them daily for edging and hinge routing. Very happy with them, will be getting 2, possibly 3 more. Merry tools sells the same router, same branding ("Katsu"). You can also find this router branded "HugFlight". There is a cheaper version that looks similar, it has a clear plastic base, no variable speed and a 600w motor. I didn't like the looks of that base, so I went with the Katsu. All 3 of mine came with 1/4" and 3/8" collets. The 3/8" collet DOES NOT hold 8mm bits. I bought a 8mm collet to fit a Makita 3620 and that works fine for 8mm.

**Q: It is stated-Most of spare parts are compatible with famous brands. Which guide bushes or collets will fit from other brands?**
A: Collets: mine came with 1/4in and 3/8in collets: Makita RT0700C collets are compatible: 1/4in (Makita part no. 763637-1), 8mm (Makita part no. 763618-5) and 3/8in (Makita part no. 763619-3). Makita also make a 6mm collet but I don't think that they are available in the UK - at least I cannot find a part number listedGuide bushes: the alloy base (fixed base trimmer) has a recess which will take the Makita 10mm steel guide bush (Makita part no. 343577-5) - the plastic sub-base must be removed to install this then replaced. The plastic sub-base (fixed bazse trimmer) has an opening which accommodates "standard" Porter-Cable type guide bushes available from various places - Amazon UK sell the Silverline Imperial sized guide bushes, Axminster Power Tool sell the UJK metric sized guide bushes in the UK

**Q: Should this come with a template guide? Page 6 of the manual implies it should, but mine didn’t. This would be very handy. Thanks.**
A: Templates are bespoke or roller bearing trimmer cutter.after all its only a hand trimmer..good luck and remember they still can do damage.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ For the price you can't really go wrong, right?!
*by P***R on 17 January 2025*

Picked up two of these routers based on reviews, videos etc that spoke highly of them. Now of course there was negative and neutral reviews so I went into the purchase not expecting an amazing high end tool but something half decent and better still, two for just over €100 delivered. The Makita router it's based on (and obviously a far superior machine) was for sale locally at €165! The routers were delivered before the delivery date....super! They are nice heavy machines, there is a feeling of a level of quality with them......just don't look too closely, they are, litteraly, a bit rough around the edges. The plastic and metal castings could do with a bit of tidying up but in reality this won't affect the performance surely?! I bought two as I need them for specific tasks in a production so they'll be assigned a cutter and used for that task alone. They work fine, speed is good, lock mech on the base is solid etc although I have noticed with one of them the bit does seem to be slipping outward ever so slightly in the collet (they are supplied with 1/4" collects fitted) using Trend 1/4" bits. I'll have to take a closer look at this one, and see if this can be remedied. Overall, yeah perfectly fine for the price, these will not get hard or heavy use, I have other routers for that so I'm happy with what I got for the monies I paid 😎👌
