Not only are they toughened glass and heat resistant, they can be used for cutting (I wouldn't use it as a chopping board though to be on the safe side) and they match my worktop very nicely. I bought 3 - to go under the kettle, toaster and one as a cutting board come heat rack next to the cooker hob. Then I bought another one to go under the tassimo machine the other side of the kitchen and I've just bought another to make the latest 2 wide to accommodate my smoothie maker. With my worktop they're actually very subtle while protecting the worktop really well.
