First off you do need an air compressor to use this. The compressor I have came with a standard set of tire filler attachments. I replaced the current car tire filler with the new AstroAI Digital Tire inflator and used it to top off the tires on both our cars. What a change!! Previously I would put in some air into the tire, then detach, hook up an air pressure gage to see what the new pressure was, then put more air in, repeat, repeat, repeat. Now with the AstroAI inflator I can see the tire pressure once I stop filling the tire without detaching. The spring-loaded catch on the tire connector works great. It holds the filler onto the tire stem so you don't have to constantly push the filler against the tire stem. It also connects much easier with virtually no air loss from the tire (unlike the old filler). The on-off air pressure filler switch also works great for adding and stopping putting air into your tire from the compressor. In order to get an accurate tire pressure you need to stop adding air, which is very easy with the on-off handle switch. During air addition to the tire the pressure reads high due to the higher pressure of the air coming in from the compressor. The air release button also works great. Filling tires is now 10 times easier, quicker, and far more accurate with this system. I used it on my bicycle as well. Previously due to the higher pressure needed for bike tires it was VERY difficult to engage the old filler onto the stem. I actually had to use a pair of pliers to hold the stem in order to push hard enough to put air into the tire. What a pain. The new AstroAI filler also works great here as well. The QD fittings are what are almost always on the working end of air hoses which have a general purpose. In other words a shop, garage, etc. where different air tools may often be switched out on the hose end. Gas station air hoses really have just one intended purpose; to fill tires with air. Therefore they almost always have a Schrader type inflation tip. So out of the box, no this will not work at a gas station. By adding a bit extra to this, you can use it at gas stations. All you would need to do, is instead of threading in the supplied 1/4" QD male, put in what is called a tank valve. It will have the threading to attach to the inlet port of this tool, and have a Shrader valve (just like tires have) on it's other end. In neither case do you have a “Tire Inflator.” It’s a gauge. If you plug this thing into your tire thinking you’re going to inflate it, then you better hope you have a AAA membership, because an hour later you’re going to still have a flat tire. Very misleading product name. Amazon should have made it clear that an air compressor is required. **Q: does it read pressure while inflating, or do you have to let go of the trigger to read the pressure?** A: You have to let go of the trigger to get the new reading. **Q: Can you remove the clip on chuck and replace it with a dual head chuck?** A: Sir I think your asking if you can replace the tire valve chuck. I suppose one can if you unscrew the tire chuck from the fitting and your "dual head" device has matching screw in connection.
