They don’t hurt my ears, are easy to insert and remove, and the center stems don’t stick out and rub against my helmet lining. I use the “tour” type and they work well for me. I did notice I can hear the helmet speakers better in my Shoei helmet than my older Bell Star. The Bell has ton of vents and is not known as a quiet helmet, so no surprise there. Wind noise is greatly reduced, while retaining good range for music and the engine. I am only docking a star because I received a malformed pair, with one having a seemingly half melted base on arrival.
