Easier to have around than a 20' extension ladder

*by L***C on Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2023*

Wife loves it. Folds small, easy to carry around, fits in vehicle well, stable. Everything she needs when she doesn't want to worry about try to navigate home with the 20' extension ladder. She did buy the cover for the top, but does a great job not marking the surface it rest on. Overall great purchase for when you need it.

Strong, Tall, and Easy to Handle

OK. I'm thoroughly impressed.IMPORTANT: The Chinese knock-offs are not nearly as well made. This ladder is ANSI rated, while the others cite that they are EN131 (European Union) rated. The important point here is that a ladder that is EN131 rated is tested at exactly the rated weight, while a ladder that is ANSI rated must be tested at 4-times its rated weight. In other words, a ladder that is EN131 rated for 250 pounds was tested at no more than that weight. An ANSI rated ladder, like this one, that is rated at 250 pounds, was tested at 1,000 pounds. BIG Difference. Also, do not be fooled by claims that a ladder is both ANSI and EN131 rated. That is NOT POSSIBLE. They are mutually exclusive rating systems. Now, to get on with my review.I inspect motorhomes and RVs and have to climb on top of some very tall coaches. Even if the coach has a ladder, I use my own ladder, because some of those attached ladders can be of marginal reliability. I used to use a folding extendable Werner ladder

Werner MT-26 300-Pound Duty Rating Telescoping Multi-Ladder, 26-Foot

that would reach 13 feet, in its folded configuration. But it was ungainly to handle, took up a lot of space in my truck, and took a lot of time and trouble to put up and take down. Don't get me wrong. That Werner ladder a great ladder. But it's just not meant for being mobile.Enter the Xtend & Climb 785P. This thing is 15.5 feet in length, fully extended. That's a lot different that 15.5 feet in "reach". Many ladder manufacturers try to make their ladders seem taller than they actually are. When most manufacturers say that their ladder is 15.5 feet, you will notice the word "reach" included in the statement. So what that really means is that the ladder is 12.5 feet in length and that an average size person could "reach" 15.5 feet. That is not the case with the Xtend & Climb. 15.5 feet means actual length, so your reach should be about 18.5 feet. In short, this ladder is the longest ladder of its type. It's almost as heavy as my other ladder. But it's in a much smaller and more manageable size. That means that I can more easily lift it into the back of my truck and it takes up far less space.I weigh close to 200 pounds. But when this ladder is extended to its full length, I feel perfectly safe, even at a significant incline. There is no bounce or bend to it, as you reach the middle of your climb, as happens with lesser ladders. It's as solid as any ladder you could ask for. You can feel the difference between ladders that have been tested at 250 pounds and this one, that has been tested to 1,000 pounds. It's all the difference in the world. But the best part is how easy it is to put up and take down. If I didn't have to stop and attach some sliced pool noodles to the ladder, to protect the paint job on the coach, It would take less than 20 seconds. In fact, it takes longer to press the pool noodles into place than it takes to raise the ladder. Conclusion: Don't go the cheap route. This Xtend & Climb ladder is only a little more expensive than the knock-offs, but well worth the difference in price.

Super RV ladder! And great for the home as well!

*by N***C on Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2016*

Great ladder and easy to use! This 770p ladder is ANSI type II rated for 225 lb. weight capacity, and OSHA compliant for safety. Other similar ladders which are half the price claim 300lb capacity but do not back that up with an industry standard rating or quality compliance standard. That is also why this ladder is only rated at a conservative 225lbs but is much heavier duty than some cheaper versions rated higher. This ladder uses airplane grade aluminum. If you require 300lb rating or tougher version, look for Type IA or the pro version 780p. I also bought the top rung silicone cover and it fits perfect (TC811) and really helps protect walls from dents or scratches, as well as from slipping at the top. This ladder weighs 27lbs which is not light but you don’t want light when it comes to being that far in the air. Before purchasing, do yourself a favor and get something which weighs 30lbs and lift it before buying. If you have average coordination, this ladder is simple for one person to extend quickly and collapse with no issues. Some user comments indicate it takes two people or that the ladder is not safe. I disagree. I fully extend it by myself in less than a minute. Please treat this like any other extension ladder which puts you high in the air! You should be sure about properly extending/retracting (making sure both green dots are showing), making sure it is level, angled correctly, on sure footing, leaning against something which can secure the weight, abiding by manufacturer’s recommendations, etc. Also the instructions state that the unused rungs when not fully extended are kept at the TOP of the ladder.I found the ladder to be very stable and solid. Perhaps some people angle their ladder too flat against something but if you keep it at the proper angle there is hardly any difference in this ladder than a nonprofessional extension ladder. I had no problem (180lbs) going up and down this ladder fully extended with tools to reach the top of my RV, as well as general ladder needs around my home. It stores nicely under the bed of the RV when not in use. 32” closed height. The anodized finish is easy to clean. It has a soft pad underneath the lower section of the ladder for your hand so you can hold it under your arm for easy carrying.I’m sure this would work for any need but if more than just light duty home use, I recommend purchasing the pro models.I’d recommend using gloves if you must put your hand in-between rungs when collapsing (which shouldn’t happen) or instead put the ladder on the ground and collapse the rungs by hand. If you have a concern about how much force is on the release mechanisms when released, put something shock absorbing in-between the rung while retracting and pull it out after a rung is retracted. I use some old cardboard doubled over.I would not hesitate buying this ladder again.
