The brackets come with a tightening screw. Once mounted to the ceiling you can tightening that screw tight to the rod so that it holds it in place. I don't know how much weight is going to be on it but if heavy you will need the 3 brackets. **Q: How much weight can it hold?** A: I'm not sure. But this heavy duty curtain rod does not need support in center to hold up my heavy insulated black out curtains.
