I'm on a low calorie diet that is mostly protein, so very very few carbs. 5htp helps reduce carb cravings, and it also helps with sleep, so i take 500mg with dinner and 500mg with my bedtime pills and that has been helpful in keeping carb cravings at bay since i started this diet. I haven't cheated a single time, which also helps, because the more sugar we have, the more we crave. So over two weeks ago i switched out this 5htp for my regular brand, and it definitely worked! No side effects other than what i expect, if i take these on an empty stomach, after 30-60 minutes i will start not feeling good. So i make sure my stomach isn't empty. If i were only taking 100mg at a time, this wouldn't be an issue. One possible side effect from taking 5htp is having very vivid dreams. I've been taking 5htp long enough that my body no longer seems to be responding in that way, and i haven't had any vivid dreams that i remember lately, until the first night i used this product. This supplement doesn't produce serotonin, but it helps create the building blocks so your body can produce more serotonin so it improves mood by making sure your body has what it needs to make mood-enhancing neurotransmitters. If you are low on the building blocks to make serotonin, this will help you. If you are not, it won't make any difference. I've read that it is also supposed to reduce carb cravings (because carbohydrates are part of what helps your body make serotonin), but that has never been one of the effects it has had on me. In terms of how this is to take, I found it easy to tolerate. It didn't produce any stomach upset or changes to bathroom habits. I found it easy to swallow and it didn't have a taste nor did it produce any weird burps. I was glad that this was a once-a-day formula as many of the types I've taken are twice daily which is more troublesome. I was satisfied with the impact this had on my mood issues.

This review is for: Primaforce 5-HTP 100mg Supplement, 120 Capsules, 100mg Per Serving, 5-Hydroxytryptophan I've been taking 100mg. of 5-HTP before bed for at least 15 years.... maybe 20 years. I got started on it back when Dr. Mercola was my physician (when he was seeing patients... before he started his online business). He recommended it for myself and my son for sleep. I've been taking it ever since. I don't have many issues with sleep unless I stop taking 5-HTP and potassium. The potassium helps KEEP you from waking during the night, by the way. This is a good price for 120 capsules. Hope this was helpful.
