Suggest you use a vacuum that you can adjust and control the suction. A vacuum with too much suction can pull in some loose skin areas on your pets and cause harm. I suggest you keep your hand on the vulnerable areas to keep the skin tight to prevent it from being sucked into the blade chamber if you are using the shortest attachment. Use extreme caution anywhere near the ears and paws, they can easily get sucked in and do real harm to them. I have used them on my 3 dogs for many years and it's a very effective way to groom your dogs if used properly and can save a lot of money. But, you must put in the time and work to do it. Depending on how long the fur is and how short you plan to cut it, will determine how much time it will take you to get the job done. If it's long and you plan to shorten it by an inch or more, then cut about 1/4 of an inch at a time. Much more effective and won't damage the flowbee. That means you may have to change the cutting attachment for a shorter cut several times to achieve the length you want. Use a cooling spray lubricant often designed for clippers every 15 to 20 minutes. Now, getting your dog acquainted to the flowbee and the sounds. Start by making sure your pet is secure and calm preferably on a grooming table. Take the head of the flowbee without the vacuum or flowbee head turned on and simulate the trimming process for several minutes to get them used to the bumping action on there body. Continue until the seem at ease with what is happening and they do not fear it. Next, turn on the vacuum and repeat that same process until you get the same fearless compliance. The next step is where you must have patience but it does work. Turn on the flowbee cutting head along with the vacuum, but do not touch your dog with it. Move it all around you pet slowly until your pet becomes complacent, calm and gets use the sound from both the cutting head and vacuum. When your pet seems to no longer fear the sounds, slowly begin to tap along the the back from the lower neck back to the hind legs. If your pet reacts with uneasiness back off until they relax but do not turn off the flowbee or vacuum. Slowly begin the process of trimming and repeat if necessary. Your pet will become fearless of the trimming process after they know it will not harm them. I have three dogs and have followed these steps with all three and none of them fear the grooming process. The best part, no mess! Time consuming? yes! Worth it? yes! From my experience, take your time, be patient and very cautious around loose skin and especially the ears. If you nick them once you will never get them to ever cooperate again. I have two Pomeranian's and a Yorkie. The Yorkie loves it! The Poms could care less. Saved me a whole lot of money.
