## Description

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, was the event that forced the U.S. to join World War II. U.S. currency changed in response to the military demands for metals such as copper and nickel. The 1941 Jefferson Nickel was issued more than 70 years ago in the year of the Pearl Harbor attack. Starting in 1942, the Nickel was struck in 35% silver to save nickel for the war effort. These are the only silver Nickels in history, and the short-lived silver coins are identified by a large mint mark on the reverse. In 1943, the Penny was made in steel instead of copper. This one-year-only coin is the only U.S. steel coin. In 1944, Pennies were made with recycled copper from shell cases recovered from battlefields and ships. Also included is a $10 Japanese Invasion Note that the Japanese planned to use in the U.S. in place of U.S. currency following a successful invasion – but fortunately it was never needed! Measures 7 1/2" x 4" x 1/4"

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are this replicas or 100% authentic**
A: They should be 100% Authentic. These coins are not expensive to obtain and the bills were mass produced as well. You can find those Japanese Peso bills, actually called Fiat Peso, in several denominational notes from 1 to 1000, rather a cheaply. While I can’t say that they were going to be used in Hawaii, they were originally manufactured to be used in the Philippines. The likelihood that would have been used in Hawaii, is rather small, due to the fact, Japan issued different notes for the different territories it conquered. For instance Burma was also under Japanese control during WWII and they were issued Rupees, not Pesos. I don’t recall the whole stamp vs non stamp difference, but it could be that the ones stamped were sent to or arrived in the Philippines and the ones that were not, never left Japan. If you really want historically significant money related to Hawaii in WWII, you can find US Dollars that was printed with brown die and stamped on the back with HAWAII. These note were made in the event that Japan did try to take Hawaii and then the US government could say all those Hawaii notes were worthless.

**Q: How are this authentic if those steel pennys are only around 30 in existence right now**
A: The 1943 steel penny was made in abundance. They are everywhere for cheap. The 1943 copper penny is worth a fortune if you can find one. At was the copper penny that only a few were made. All copper in 1943 was going to war effort. During this time even nickels were made of silver because nickel was going to war effort.

**Q: Are all of the bills stamped ? My second purchase was not.**
A: Ours was stamped.

**Q: Need sleeve for whitman native american sacagawea album. 2018-present. do you have any?**
A: No
