If the area is lit by streetlights, you can probably leave the built-in light off. In my experience, this camera is only beat by the Loryta IPC-T2347G-LU, which is slightly better at night.The T5442TM-AS-LED is made by Dahua and uses their setup utilities which usually fail for me. If you aren't comfortable manipulating your computer's IP address, you should look for something else. Has no on off switch, and no indicator light to show its getting power. Has ethernet plug and power plug but since supports POE, not clear, but I assume if using POE, not needed. They should make this clear.Also - essentially no docs on setup. There was an image which turned into a link to docs, but that referred to running a configuration tool they didn't provide. And it said to connect to a hardwired IP address that didnt work.There are lots of other positive reviews about this camera, so if you care enough, presumably you can get past these issues.
