**Q: Can you put these into an alive tree? Or does it have to be a cut log?**
A: As I understand it, shiitake mushrooms are saprophytic, that is they consume the wood they grow on. They are traditionally grown on freshly cut, hardwood logs. So no, don't try to grow them on a living tree. Read Paul Stamet's Mycelium Running for everything you could possibly want to know about growing gourmet mushrooms.

**Q: can this whole process be carried out in the garden? Purely outdoor. Have no room indoors to start the process. Appreciate any advice. Thank you.**
A: Our Shiitake log growing kits are designed for outdoor growing. For indoor growing we recommend you check out our Oyster Mushroom growing kits!

**Q: Should I remove moss on log**
A: Yes, we advise that all moss is removed from the log before inoculating with the Shiitake dowels.

how do i store before giving?**

This product was a major disappointment. You have a drill bit, wax and an applier!!! You have to scan a QR code for the spores to be sent out. I was so upset by this product as had bought it as a present. Can't even see if I can get a refund!
