Review: Accurate and Reliable HR Monitor – A Great One-Time Investment - I’ve been using the Garmin HRM-Pro Plus for the past 10 days with my Garmin Fenix 7X, primarily for running and CrossFit, and I’ve been really impressed with its performance. If you’re looking for a reliable heart rate monitor that delivers consistent results, this is a fantastic option. Accurate Heart Rate Tracking: The HR data is very accurate and consistent. I’ve compared the readings with my Whoop 4.0 (bicep strap), and the numbers are nearly identical. Unlike the Whoop wrist strap, which often underestimates heart rate in higher zones (4-5), the HRM-Pro Plus delivers precise readings across all intensity levels. One-Time Payment – A Major Advantage: One of the best aspects of the HRM-Pro Plus is that it’s a one-time purchase. With Whoop’s subscription model, costs add up over time, but with Garmin, you pay once and enjoy the benefits without any ongoing fees. This was a big factor in my decision to switch to Garmin as my main HR monitor. Learning Curve with the App: The only downside I’ve encountered is the Garmin Connect app interface. It’s not the most intuitive and takes a bit of time to get used to. However, once you get past the learning curve, it’s manageable. In Summary: I’m extremely satisfied with the Garmin HRM-Pro Plus and plan to make it my primary HR monitor for workouts. Given that my Fenix 7X already does an excellent job tracking sleep and recovery, I’m confident I can retire my Whoop altogether. If you’re looking for accuracy, consistency, and a solid alternative to subscription-based fitness trackers, this is a great choice.
Review: There are cheaper HR strap options out there, but it's more than just an HRM. - Bought to replace a very ancient Garmin HRM which was detachable and I had replaced the strap with third party options on a couple of occasions. This new one is the ultimate HRM if you've got a Garmin and desertcart prices are competitive. It's wider than my old one and more comfortable as a result. However the unit is not detachable so if the elastic goes or starts to smell, then you'll need to replace the whole thing which is a shame. That said, it seems very robust and, despite my scepticism, following the guidelines by rinsing under the tap after each use and in mild detergent every 7 days seems pretty effective and there is no smell whatsoever. The device needs to be registered as a device in Garmin Connect which means that it monitors battery life and delivers any software upgrades. You also pair it with your device and I've had rock solid automatic connections whenever I've launched an activity, and it seamlessly disconnects and reverts to the wrist based HR when I come out - I often had to manually pair the old one on each occasion so that's a big improvement. In addition to HR, it also captures Running Dynamics so if you've got an older watch that doesn't have this natively, you'll see Stride Length, Ground Contact Time, Vertical Oscillation, etc in your Garmin Connect record. It also captures Left/Right balance which watches don't do and that is a useful metric. Although the fact that I get more wear on the left heel of my shoes would also tell me the same thing, but only after a few hundred miles of running and possible injury risk! Although all this information is there for any brand of watch, in practice only Garmin devices actually display it. It may well justify the high price of the HRM Pro+, but really only if you have a Garmin product. Although I've not tested it, it is also capable of storing HR data and then downloading it to the watch later - for example if you are swimming. It can also help with treadmill running where you can't use GPS to estimate distance and speed. So in summary, this is one of the most expensive HRMs out there, but worth it if you want the extra features and you have a Garmin. Otherwise, save some money and look elsewhere.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how do you change battery**
A: It's now a tool free operation, you take off the white rubber, then twist open the battery compartment, very simple.

**Q: Can this be used for swimming?**
A: Yes

**Q: Does this pair with the Instinct Solar Tactical?**
A: Yes

**Q: My last hrm broke. water got in from a crack and it corroded. need to replace the seal on this one? so it doesnt let water in??**
A: The HRM Pro plus is suitable for water training and shouldnt corrode if properly cared for post workout (fresh water treatment after chlorine pool or saltwater). If your HRM that broke was an HRM pro plus and had its casing cracked somehow the i would assume you may need to replace or repair it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works really well
*by C***M on 2 October 2025*

A fantastic addition to any runner's toolkit, this HRM is both accurate and functional and connects very quickly to my coros watch which is obviously a different brand from garmin, showing its connectivity and also its bluetooth capacity. It is also worth noting that I believe the chest strap is far more accurate than the arm hrm that coros uses and if you are a coros user, I would highly recommend getting this HRM.
