Designed for striking cold chisels, brick chisels, punches, star drills, spikes and hardened nails. Both faces are beveled. This drilling hammer has an 11 in. jacketed and textured yellow fiberglass handle which allows for heavier blows in an environment where there is limited swing. Review: The best bang for your buck. - This may be the best bang for your buck that desertcart carries in 2 pound sledge hammers. Short in length but really well-balanced; you can more easily use it in tight spaces, or really slam it down for striking when using a hammer lug crimper tool (which is what I purchased it for) - without hurting your wrist. This tool is going to get a lot of use, and not just for crimping either. It is so well made and feels great in han. It will last long past my remaining lifetime for sure.
Review: Such a perfect mallet!!! - I'm a 62 year old woman and this is the first mallet I've ever bought. I got it to pound 4' metal fencing (chickenwire type fencing) into the ground to serve as stabilizing/correction stakes for my Royal Purple Smokebush, which is tilting at 45 degrees (the Smokebush is often used as a tree, like I'm doing, and the lower branches are cut off --but, it's still a bush and so not as strong as a tree, and mine just ended up really tilted). I have stainless steel outdoor cable to secure the Smokebush to the stakes and wood shims to assure the cables don't damage the Smokebush where they come in contact. All I needed to get going was a mallet!!! I haven't used it yet, but the weight is perfect and I'm so glad to have this mallet!!! There was a time when I needed a rubber mallet, but I bypassed it because I would rather have this metal one at least, and just use folded towels as a cushion to get a similar effect as a rubber mallet. This is a great, all purpose mallet to have!!! Very glad to add this to my collection of tools!!!

**Q: made in china?**
A: Sorry, all label worn out due to heave use. China or not, it is a solid tool for the money. It will last a long time.

**Q: Can this sledge be used in similar fashion as a blacksmith's hammer?**
A: I use this hammer with large cold chisels for rock hounding so there should be no problem with using the head on hot, soft metals.  Not so sure about a fiberglass handle around a forge though.

**Q: What is the length of the of the handle?**
A: The length of the handle is 8 3/4 " from bottom of head to end of handle

**Q: Is this a good thumb detector?**
A: Not a problem although, my ST1701 gloves have a deflector shield weave in the matetial.

This may be the best bang for your buck that Amazon carries in 2 pound sledge hammers. Short in length but really well-balanced; you can more easily use it in tight spaces, or really slam it down for striking when using a hammer lug crimper tool (which is what I purchased it for) - without hurting your wrist. This tool is going to get a lot of use, and not just for crimping either. It is so well made and feels great in han. It will last long past my remaining lifetime for sure.

I'm a 62 year old woman and this is the first mallet I've ever bought. I got it to pound 4' metal fencing (chickenwire type fencing) into the ground to serve as stabilizing/correction stakes for my Royal Purple Smokebush, which is tilting at 45 degrees (the Smokebush is often used as a tree, like I'm doing, and the lower branches are cut off --but, it's still a bush and so not as strong as a tree, and mine just ended up really tilted). I have stainless steel outdoor cable to secure the Smokebush to the stakes and wood shims to assure the cables don't damage the Smokebush where they come in contact. All I needed to get going was a mallet!!! I haven't used it yet, but the weight is perfect and I'm so glad to have this mallet!!! There was a time when I needed a rubber mallet, but I bypassed it because I would rather have this metal one at least, and just use folded towels as a cushion to get a similar effect as a rubber mallet. This is a great, all purpose mallet to have!!! Very glad to add this to my collection of tools!!!
