It's held up against food, paint, play-doh, markers, you name it. It does seem to slide out of place a little bit more than it did at first, but that's really not an issue for us as we move it to vacuum anyway. Highly recommend!This rug is fantastic! I went back and forth for days trying to choose one for our dedicated art space that we set up for our toddlers. We live in a place where the winters get brutal, and going outside with two kids under 3 when the windchill is basically negative 5000... not in my plan. I wanted something that would tie the whole space together and make it look more planned, instead of just a boring room with a table and crafts.This did the trick 100%. I chose this rug ultimately because it offers a lot of learning, and if you're creative you can make a lot of games out of the different aspects of it.
