There is no nearby wall or desk.** A: It has to be in it's upright position. The way it's build weight (from above) keeps it in place. If you try to mount it upside down it won't work. **Q: What diameter does the pole/pipe/mount need to be to fit or work with this extension arm?** A: For this arm it is 1.38" (35mm). It is not compatible with the LX HD mount which has a 1.57" (40mm) pole **Q: Will this work with the LX Dual Stacking Arm in order to have a longer arm at the top height?** A: The top arm is of fixed length and is non adjustable except for up-down tension. The extension allows the unit to expand the length from the wall bracket to the device. The device is raised in height by the height of the extension somewhere round six inches. Only two extensions can be used (raising height 12 inches aprox) and bracket on wall can be mounted lower or higher to set the device to be at the desired level. Excellent quality and durable product, mine is used with a laptop that folds away on the wall when not in use. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Used to extend my monitor's reach (added to existing 2 LX extensions), sturdy *by on Reviewed in the United States February 1, 2023* I wanted to be able to secure my monitor to the wall in my RV and have it extendable out to the dinette or bed. I can't do that, so I have a pole right next to the wall that it is attached to. I added this extension to my Ergotron LX dual monitor stand I already had, making 3 extensions plus the adjustable arm that the monitor attaches to. It works fine, though the weight is enough that even with a very sturdy pole I got as the base, it still flexes a bit and bounces with the monitor fully extended 38-40" from the pole. But that isn't the fault of the arms, it is the pole that flexes (which isn't surprising, given the weight of the monitor is 7 lbs at 3 feet out from the pole). I think you'd need a pole that was really short, or could also be clamped at the top. My pole is nearly 4 feet tall and very solid (thicker than the original short pole that comes with the LX dual stand), with dual clamps, near the bottom and then maybe halfway up. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ergotron is a good choice for a monitor support system *by on Reviewed in the United States October 24, 2014* Ergotron is a good choice for a monitor support system. One bit of information I always wanted to know and had a hard time figuring out when I went to buy one was what should I get? A desk mount, a wall mount, a dual monitor setup. After having used one for a few years now I can say with relative certainty in most cases you are probably going to want to get a wall mount if you can. I got a desk mount, and it works very well for me, but I also had to specifically find extremely heavy and sturdy furniture to mount it on. The usual particle board that everything cheap seems to be made out of is simply not going to cut it. The factor of stability comes into question even more prominently If you want to add one or, like I did, two extensions, because you are leveraging that weight even more. I'd be loathe to add another extension on the desk mount I have. As it is, I think its going to be sturdy enough to hold, but jumping up and down on it definitely isn't advisable.As far as two monitor setups go, if you want to do that plan it from day one. Both of mine are mounted on the HUANUO Dual Monitor Stand and a fairly wide desk, so to get them positioned properly I needed at least one of these. Its super nice to be able to pull the gaming monitor super close when actually gaming while keeping the other monitor farther to the side and not have any visual overlap while sitting at the desk!The only possible downside is that the little cap doesn't snap on where the original HUANUO arm connects to this extension. it appears the Ergotron has a shorter cylinder... but who cares about that right?
