## Description

desertcart.com: BDF S8MC Window Film Security and Safety 8 Mil Clear - 12in X 49ft : Home & Kitchen

Review: Feels like a solid product, hopefully it stands up to it's duties if called upon, installation a breeze. - I just purchased this window film and after a few days of procrastinating I finally put this on my windows. I put this on 4 smaller pane windows and a large sliding glass door, before I ordered I measured everything exactly as I would need and purchased the order for the appropriate amount, they gave me a bit of extra which was in case of minor screw ups and with the extra I was also able to put some film onto a small thinner window as well. Having some extra is a nice touch. While I hope to never need to test this film's strength out, I purchased it for protection from the elements, intruders, and also from my child who may decide one day to throw a ball at the window, for safety reasons you can imagine I don't want shards of glass falling everywhere with a toddler in the home. The film itself is nice, it feels very thick and sturdy. I'm hoping it holds up well in the long run. As for install, the kit comes with a plastic squeegee and a sharp cutting knife to cut the film, your own tools you will need are a spray bottle with some soap and water in it, measuring tape, a straight edge ruler, a pair of sharp scissors or if you have a straight cutting board tool that would definitely come in handy for this job. I have done minor tint jobs in the past on my car windows and with that I would say I have had some previous experience when it comes to installing tint on windows, however car glass is usually a little convex and that makes things very difficult, unless you have some weirdly shaped windows (circles, custom glass that curves) this shouldn't be too difficult to do. The most important thing is to make sure you have a clean work surface for the film and the glass you're applying it onto. I was able to have minimal dust and bubbles enter the film and most of it is because of keeping the glass very clean and very soapy during the entire installation. My advice is to measure your window, (measure twice cut once) and cut the film to the exact size of the window if you can cut very nice straight lines. I discovered this worked much better after half way through the job, it's rather difficult to trim the film once it is on the glass without causing it to get a bit dirty, also you can probably get straighter lines cutting it on a table than on the glass itself. Because the film is so thick and sturdy I wasn't as worried about the film crimping like the flimsy tint would do, just wet it, slide things around a bit and squeegee the water out. Work from the center with a vertical line down the middle than push water out towards the sides horizontally until you get all the water out. I would also recommend doing this at night or if it's not too hot but I prefer night as the water doesn't just evaporate on contact with the window, this gives you more time to reposition and squeegee. I hope this helps, and you have a good install, I feel like it's going to give me a bit more peace of mind that my windows are more secure, and if anything it'll buy me a few extra seconds to dial the authorities if anything were to happen.
Review: Great stuff! - This window film is really good. I followed their instructions at first. The job was easy once I got the hang of it. My window glass panels are 10 1/2 inch by 33 inches. I found it easier to just cut the film to size rather than do it their way. If the glass had been bigger their way would have been easier. All in all I am very happy.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why does the film not stick to the window? / Why did the film fall off from the window a few hours later?**
A: There is a clear "backing liner" layer attached to the actual "film" layer. The backing liner covers the adhesive on the film so that the film does not prematurely stick. When you install the film, the backing liner needs to be peeled off from it.

**Q: Which of the two layers is the film, and which is the backing liner?**
A: The actual window film that you install is thicker than the backing liner, which would be removed and discarded when you install the film. The side of the film that the backing liner is covering has the sticky adhesive.

**Q: Which thickness should I get? / Should I use the 4 mil or the 8 mil?**
A: The 8 mil is stronger against impact, but the greater thickness makes it more difficult to install properly. The 4 mil is recommended if you mainly need a safety film, which holds shattered glass pieces together in case of glass breakage.

**Q: Why did bubbles (or spots where film is not adhering properly) form after the film was installed?**
A: This is due to the moisture left inside. The film may appear fine when installed, but afterwards, the water can interfere with the adhesive and cause bubbles to form. Apply firm pressure with the squeegee and push out the water to prevent bubbles.

**Q: Is the film applied on the interior or exterior side of the window?**
A: This film is intended for the interior side.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong and thick
*by D***E on August 31, 2021*

Have applied film to windows several times prior to this. Description: Others films I’ve applied were thinner like a plastic freezer bag. This was thick, almost like a heavy plastic packaging that encases things like children’s toys, the kind you need a scissor or small knife to open the package. Use: That being said we applied it to some double pane windows that let in a lot of noise, it did noticeably lower the noise to make it more tolerable. It appears that it would work very well for security. Application: Use lots of soapy water and do not apply to a warm window. Since it is thick it will leave a fold crease if you are not careful. There is also a sticky glue type substance on the back that will smudge and if you are not careful and leave a visible spot. Try to precut it or make a template so at most you only need to trim 2 adjacent sides, it cuts well with the razor blade but doesn’t bend easily into the corners. Summary: Would prolly recommend the thinner mil if you are looking for easier application. This is tough to remove, I smudged the glue in one spot pretty bad and decided to redo it 1 1/2 days later and had to cut and spray it, it was very hard to remove. There are a few bubbles that I hope will go away, nothing would squeegee them out, but it’s worth it to decrease the noise.
