Once the briquettes are going, I take the time to lay them out in a grid pattern on the fire deck, which produces even, high heat. Not as hot as true lump charcoal, but that is often not necessary or desired. I do keep lump on hand if that is what I want. But for briquettes, these are the best ever used. Be sure to shop around.
