Read my method. *by B***D on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2019* I used upholstery fabric, and it would have wrecked my thumbs to try to do it according to the instructions. For the first step, getting the front of the button down into the fabric in the button form would have been impossible, but I used a hammer and a cylinder the right size to tap the blue pusher into place. For adding the button back, I folded the fabric inwards (easy), and applied some hot glue with a glue gun, then applied the back piece while the glue was still warm. Then I positioned the round end of an angled combination wrench over the back. The button loop was short enough relative to the wrench that I could just tap the back snugly into place with the hammer. I pushed the finished button out right away, and let the glue cure overnight. I was covering wicker chair cushions with upholstery fabric and after reading the reviews was concerned that it would be too heavy and require hot glue to keep the buttons closed. I followed the excellent directions, using the pattern and the "tool" that came along with the set and found success! No hot glue required. I'm wondering if some of the reviewers did not use the pattern and just used judgment on the size. I speak from experience because I didn't think I needed to use that and ended up trimming the edges after having difficulty pressing the tool down to secure the button. Once I used the pattern - it worked perfectly!
