If you have used a 5000 BTU portable heater it is 1,500 watts. 650 watts is a bit less than half of that in BTU output, most of which comes after you are done and the heat slowly radiates from the oven as it cools. It is not suitable for long periods at maximum temperature setting but to use it as a heater you would leave the door open. **Q: Is this large enough to broil a slamon steak?** A: Were you asking about the compact 2 slice toaster oven or the XL model? It works pretty well and is fast, but doesn't make perfectly evenly browned toast, I usually flip them halfway. We also use it to bake and reheat items, pizza is so much better vs microwaving it. I wish the timer could be set longer. It's not good for baking items such as pastries since the heat cycles get too hot and burns the tops. The build quality seem ok, not high quality, but it's still working great after a year.
