Review: Buy it and get the job done, no worries 👍 - It worked really good to vacuum my mini split line and it did it pretty quick, it runs very quiet and it didn't get particularly hot running for 45 minutes. I didn't have any issues with it spraying oil or anything, it just worked as intended without any problems. The build quality is really good and I'm pretty sure it will probably out live me. I would say that it's worth the money. FWIW I vacuumed the mini split on a stormy day with lower pressure overhead and that allowed for a slightly stronger vacuum than what would be normal at this altitude.
Review: Powers 2 milkers, and does all our refrigeration repair. - This unit has been used in the repair/recharge of 2 chest freezers, and 2 auto air conditioners....THEN....it is in its second year of providing vacuum for a home milker. We turn it on 2X a day and milk for 30 minutes....flawless performance. It will power 2 Surge milkers with no problem. We change the oil completely about every 4 months. A good source of inexpensive oil is a local Farm Store that supplies Dairymen. We put a pipe on the exhaust, as this unit will throw a cloud of finely atomized oil fog. We just pipe that outside. VERY GOOD QUALITY UNIT FOLLOW UP...... I was concerned by the increase in oil "fog" that the machine put out. I thought that it could be rectified with a repair kit. My call to Robinaire yielded results...and an honest admission. My pump was said to be fine. It puts out more fog when the humidity is higher or more moisture is present in the system. The tech told me that there is no "repair" possibilities for that pump..."It is a cheap Asian import". I still rate it highly. But a person with heavy use and long-term needs might want to upgrade to a rebuildable pump. It is working fine for nearly 2 years now powering a surge milker. FOLLOW UP # 2.... I should have been a Prophet. Our pump is barely working now after 2 years of using 2X a day to milk. I bought a Gast 1/2 hp 1023 off Ebay for $260. I would have bought that first if I knew then what I know now. This pump is EXCELLENT for refrigeration/air conditioning work. A normal person probably won't wear it out in a lifetime. Real AC mechanics buy rebuildable brands. The Gast is designed to run 24/7 for 5-7 years before a new vane kit brings it back to 100%. The Gast is NO GOOD for refrigeration work.......but it is the better choice for milking. I can offer a lifespan estimate for this of about 500 - 700 hours. I changed the oil often. that works out to about $ fifty cents an hour until failure.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What kind of oil do you use?**
A: vaccum pump oil - but be very careful as to not over fill - I haven't put 3 oz in the pump after the first fill. I use it to pull the air from Platnumsilicon mold material. Been using pump for roughly 8 months.

**Q: Is the internal "oil filter" effective or does it still put out a mist? Would you use it indoors in a poorly ventilated space?**
A: Not for indoor use unless you use and exhaust hose venting outdoors. smooth noise but annoying after time indoors. Mist comes off mostly when you restart vac after releasing pressure to open vac it for whatever reason.I set mine outside an run the vac lines into the house eliminating all exhaust and most noise.I can only get -24.5 pressure vacuum.

**Q: How many inches vacuum will this pull? I need 29 to operate a vacuum bell jar**
A: At sea level you will pull a high vacuum than you will at say 3000 feet. Probably wont pull much more than 26 at 3000'. Less at higher altitudes. This is normal. As you dont need as much vacuum at higher altitudes.

**Q: Do you have a decibel reading for the noise level?**
A: Hello, I did not take a decibel reading. but I can say that it is just a little more than a 'hum'. Nothing that would be bothersome.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome Pump - READ the Manual!
*by C***C on October 12, 2021*

I've had this pump for a few months and it works wonderfully. I use it only for degassing silicone rubber prior to making molds. One thing I would strongly recommend is reading the manual carefully prior to use. I believe a lot of the negative reviews on this pump are from people who did exactly the opposite. The pump comes with 2 bottles of oil; I did not need to use both of them. You fill the pump with oil until it reaches the minimum line, then run the pump until it runs smoothly. Then I put the rest of the first bottle in and haven't changed or added more since. This is a strong pump (2-stage 8CFM) so you will get small oil misting but it's nowhere near as bad as the negative reviews say (they probably maxed the oil level before the pump was even turned on for the first time). I use the pump in my garage, and attached a 3-foot 0.5" EPDM rubber gasoline hose to the oil exhaust and directed the tiny bit of fume out the window. I even went outside to check how much mist was coming out and saw intermittent nearly transparent puffs; nowhere near the "heavy mist" that some people are describing. As for vacuum, I get a solid 29 on the gauge of my vacuum chamber, but I also live in PA where the altitude is around 728'. The higher your altitude, the harder it will be to hit 29. All in all, this is a really great pump for the price and does exactly what I need it to do with no issue at all. Glad I ignored the bad reviews and gave it a chance. P.S. What convinced me to ignore the bad reviews was the user manual. It is freely available online (check Robinair's website) and it directly outlined how to avoid all the issues the negative reviews were mentioning. Following the manual personally avoided every issue, which is why I am convinced those negative users did not read it before use. I do recommend buying the EPDM hose, even in a well ventilated area. 3 feet of it cost me < $5 at the local auto parts shop.
