Yes you still need to put your detergent in the pre-wash dispenser. As a suggestion, you may also use Lemi Shine in the rinse cycle of your clothes washer too. To both the dishwasher and clothes washer, I add a very small amount of vinegar in with the Lemi Shine. This disinfects both dishes and clothes and make clothes soft, thus eliminating putting in fabric softner. The Lemi Shine covers the smell of the vinegar in your clothes. Together, these two things whiten and brighten clothes. Both or just the Lemi Shine also cleans both washers and make them work much better.
