Review: Great Watch At A Great Price - When I first wore this watch, I was a bit disappointed since it was losing about 20 seconds per day. I have automatic watches that don’t lose 20 seconds in a month. If it has been running fast it would have been better because you can stop it by pulling out the crown and let it drop back to the right time. Anyhow, I decided to take off the back and adjust the timing. Since the loss was so great, the adjustment had to be done to the coarse adjustment and then finished off with the fine adjustment. The coarse adjustment is very, very sensitive. If moved too far it would be easy to wreck the watch. So don’t do this unless…. The long and short of this is that the watch is now running at about +2 seconds per day which is more than acceptable. While making the adjustments I got a look at the Swiss Sellita SW200-1 movement. It is the main competitor to the popular ETA 2824 movement and is nearly identical to that movement. There was no special engraving or embellishments on the movement except that the name DavosA was embossed on the self-winding weight. Since the back of the watch is not see-through, this matters not at all. The watch case is heavy stainless and nicely polished on the sides. The crown is fairly large and easy to screw down to preserve its water resistance. The back is also very heavy. It has the DavosA logo and a U.S. flag etched on it. The dial has circular index markers with rectangular markers at six and nine and a triangle at 12--all with luminous paint. The date window takes up the 3 position. The hands and the markings on the bezel are also luminous and all are very bright. The bezel is ceramic with inlayed markers for every five seconds as well as individual one second markers for the first ten seconds. The crystal is flat sapphire with a small lens over the date window to improve legibility. As I mentioned, the watch is fairly heavy due to the solid steel case and heavy back. The watch is 15mm thick which is a few millimeters thicker that most watches with only one complication (the date). The diameter (not including the crown) was about 42mm and from lug to lug is was 51mm. Even though the watch is fairly hefty, it wears well on my small wrist. I did have to remove four links from the bracelet for proper fit. The pins holding the links are screw-in types and so will require a pretty small screw driver to remove the links. The bracelet is fairly wide at 21mm. The distance between the case lugs was 22mm and the bracelet connects to the lugs with spring pins. The sides of the bracelet are nicely polished. The buckle has an expansion link for divers who need the watch to fit over a sleeve. The keeper on the buckle is also polished with the DavosA logo etched in. The watch came packed in a very attractive box that looks like lacquered wood (but I think it’s plastic). All-in-all, I am extremely pleased with the watch and consider it a bargain for the quality that it is.
Review: Wow, what a Watch! - Bought an Omega Planet Ocean and wanted something as nice, but without the expensive name and price to wear as an alternative in certain settings. Considered a Tudor, but the price is like an Omega. Like the Rolex look and took a chance with Davosa. When I opened the box, all I could say is "Wow!" It's probably more beautiful than my Omega (although different style, size & look) and really shines. First, I noticed the band which is wide and substantial, then the weight which is also substantial (I like heavier watches that don't feel cheap). Lastly face of the watch with cyclops over the date, crystal, bezel, number makers, etc. red lettering, everything - is amazing. The clasp is also nice. For the price, it competes with much more expensive watches in every way in my humble opinion. If you like the style, buy it. Plus it a limited edition.
