**Q: This grab can be opened up and attached to a vertical life line without feeding it thru**
A: Yes it will,  1/2 inches too 5/8 line,  I am a tower climber, I love the grab

**Q: To be clear, does this work with rope diameters of 5/16 " through 5/8"?**
A: You'll find many typos and errors in item descriptions on Amazon, truthfully anytime you want the correct answer to an important specification question on a product, go straight to the manufacturer.  This appears to be a discontinued rope grab and Guardian states that their models 1500, 1503, 1505, 1506, 1507, 1508, 1509, and 1511 rope grabs are only designed for 5/8" rope.  5/16" rope is only half the diameter of 5/8" rope, there's no way it would be safe.  Someone else answered to put two ropes in at the same time, that person should not be giving life-safety advice, ever. h t t p s: // bit. ly/ 1H7XGwP Is the current link to Guardian's user manual, copy and remove the spaces.

**Q: What is the length of the rope?**
A: This doesn't come with a rope. It attaches to a 5/8" or 5/16" rope that you must purchase separately.

**Q: Can it be used with 5/8 inch nylon rope**
A: I did not fell comfortable with it,  so I returned it.
