I've worked up serious sweat on mine, but also use it for lower level workouts. It's tricky to integrate the resistance bands, I find doing 1-2 sets of 20 reps every 100 calories works well. The faster you pedal and the higher the resistance you set for the pedals the faster you'll burn calories. **Q: 1) Does this come with the backrest and extra seat cushion or must those be bought separately? 2) Is it semi-recumabnt?** A: susan, it does come with the backrest but not the extra seat cushion. my bottom was sore the first couple of days just getting used to it but nothing that ibuprofen couldn't take away. the seat is large and fairly comfortable. i've thought about purchasing the gel cushion cover but now whenever i ride over 20 miles in a day, i just fold up a cushy towel and that works fine. hope this helps. today is 3 weeks for me and i have ridden a total of 347 miles which is just amazing for this former couch potato. in fact, i'm riding it typing this answer. lol! **Q: would this be comfortable for someone as short as 5' 0"?** A: I got this bike and I am exactly 5’ 0”. It was too tall and was making riding uncomfortable as I was getting numb within minutes of sitting. My husband was just messing around to try to find a solution and ended up taking away the β€œtall people bracket” he calls that goes between the adjustment rail and the seat. It lowered it down substantially and I can ride comfortably! **Q: Does the desktop come off easily?
