Review: Home Assistant & Zigbee2MQTT: A Premium Solution That Just Works - As any Home Assistant enthusiast knows, the automation journey is addictive! After successfully integrating my pre-existing burglar alarm with Alarmo, I faced a common frustration: my old battery-powered siren was constantly going flat. The hunt was on for a reliable, maintenance-free replacement, and a solar-powered Zigbee siren seemed like the perfect solution. My initial attempt with the cheaper Neo Tuya alarm siren was disappointing. While the price was right, critical entities in Zigbee2MQTT—like the live battery percentage and solar charging status—were either non-existent or completely unreliable. I needed a robust device. My research kept pointing to only one viable, Z2M-compatible alternative: the Bosch Outdoor Siren. While the current price of around £204 is certainly "stupidly expensive," I managed to snag it during a Prime Day deal, which offered a substantial and much-needed discount. The Bosch siren is an undeniably premium piece of kit. It's very well-built, giving me confidence in its outdoor durability. The large solar panel is intelligently mounted within the alarm box itself, and the siren is genuinely loud—a significant and reassuring step up from the Tuya mode (See my review video) ⚙️ The Zigbee2MQTT Pairing "Secret" Connecting it to Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT was surprisingly a breeze, but it requires one crucial, non-obvious step: the Install Code. First, I removed the back plate of the siren. I scanned the QR code with my phone, which generated a long, unique code (mine was 96 digits). In the Zigbee2MQTT UI, I navigated to Settings > Tools > Add Install Code and pasted the QR-generated string. Z2M instantly found and configured the siren. I left all the internal dip switches set to their factory default "on" position, and it worked flawlessly straight away. The key selling point for me is the deep integration and data exposed by Z2M. I immediately linked the device to Alarmo, and it functioned brilliantly as a professional-grade alarm system component. Unlike the problematic cheaper sirens, the Bosch unit exposes all the crucial entities: Live Battery Power: Showing the exact battery percentage. Solar Charging Volts: Displaying the current voltage being generated. This live data gives me complete peace of mind, allowing me to monitor the siren's health directly from my Home Assistant dashboard. Even on a recent cloudy, dull day, I was pleased to see the battery was already charging at 18V and the percentage was steadily increasing. The Bosch Outdoor Siren is a highly recommended product if you're looking for a great quality, reliable siren that integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant and Alarmo. Yes, the price tag is a hurdle, but for the peace of mind, build quality, and perfect, fully functional integration into a local smart home security system, it is well worth the investment. It simply works—and that's invaluable. If you found my review helpful please let me know by clicking the Helpful button below! Thanks
Review: Bosch Solar Siren integration with Home Assistant. - I've been looking for a solar powered / battery alarm system for sometime, that is suitable to interface and work with Home Assistant. The Bosch outdoor siren is ideal for this purpose, and is fully controlled using zigbee2mqtt through HA without needing the smart Home controller. The integration with Home Assistant is simplicity itself. It was achieved by scanning the QR code with my phone. The QR code can be found on the back of the Bosch Siren, which is located underneath the alarms back panel mounting plate. The code generated is copied and pasted into HA Zigbee2mqtt integration that can be located under the cogwheel and tools, then the tools menu, and 'add install code' box. The Bosch Siren is then automatically detected and installed into HA. The 6, 7, and 8 dip switches inside the back panel of the Siren are set to the ON position first, which enables solar power and the 'smart' factory settings to be enabled. This needs to be done first, before its able to pair with zigbee2mqtt in HA. Once installed, the Bosch Siren was found in HA under devices, and was easily configured with a variety of available options, such as volume (low, med high) and the alarm activation delay was available from zero to thirty seconds. Siren and light activation, or just light or siren activation, can be set, along with the length of alarm time in minutes. There's also battery condition, charge percentage, and other useful information available. Once I'd configured some automations in HA, I could use the Bosch Siren in conjunction with the HACS Alarmo integration and I setup a PIN code in Alarmo to change the state of the siren to Away, Home, or Disarmed. Overall I'm very happy with the quality of Bosch Smart Siren, and how easy I was able to configure its settings. The functionality of the solar panel and battery charging ability is a bonus for me, as I didn't want to install AC power to the alarms location. The battery charges quite quickly under direct sunlight, and I've ensured the solar panel will receive adequate amounts.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bosch always reliable
*by V***Y on 17 October 2025*

Have hard wired this as I get less sun on the front side. Looks good on the outer wall. Has good sound. Easy to setup, did all the setup and pairing myself. Had asked electrician to hard wire the module.
