## Description

OSD Audio’s MX880 is a powerful 4-zone 8-channel digital amplifier for commercial and residential audio systems that require reliable power in multiple zones. A slim 2U, rack-mountable and cool-running multi-room amplifier, the MX880 includes eight channels rated at 80 watts each at 4 ohms/50 watts at 8-ohms and can be configured as the main amplifier for an audio distribution system such as for background music, paging, and multi-zone audio or as an amplifier for 5.1 or 7.2 home theater surround sound systems. Equipped with Class D digital circuitry, this slim but powerful amp keeps distortion low and efficiency high (93%). When used with an audio distribution preamp or matrix processor, each zone can independently drive one of several different sources by using each zone’s line audio inputs, and if a particular area needs higher power, then two zones can be bridged for 160 watts per channel x 2 at 8 ohms. Designed for Installation Flexibility This robust amplifier accommodates a wide range of audio applications with global and independent zone triggering, audio sense circuitry with adjustable gain/vol per channel, two Bus Inputs/Outputs and independent left and right line inputs per zone. A: It is a Class A B amplifier, definitely not Class D. It likely has a digital switching circuit in there somehow but the outputs sections are old-fashioned boat anchor type. If it was a Class D digital amplifier you'd have all that power and about a quarter of the weight.

A: The six zones, or 12 channels, share a common power supply and turn-on method either manually switched (on the front), auto sensing, or from a 12-volt trigger (hard wired). You can select a common source (1 or 2) or connect an independent source per channel or zone but you are restricted to the turn-on option you select for all. Your best bet would be to use in-wall volume controls.
