They are not as bright a red as in the picture, but a bit of a darker garnet color, which is set off beautifully with the gold accents in the earrings. They are light, comfortable to wear, and have a lot of movement. I was worried that they would be too large, as I usually don't wear big earrings. They are large, but not overly. This is my third pair of Miguel Ases earrings, and by far the priciest, even though I waited for them to go on sale. My opinion on whether they are worth the cost, given the low cost of the material, is that you are paying for the design. If you really love his style, go for it, and consider it a treat. You will almost certainly get compliments. I am rating this 4 stars only because one of the earrings is missing a small clear crystal at the top. And check out the whole (quite large) collection, it's phenomenal and so many different styles... I wouldn't be surprised if there was one in there just for you.
